2011-5. Review. VIKENTII KHVOIKA AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO INVESTIGATIONS OF THE ANCIENT HISTORY OF UKRAINE

Abstract
This review presents a thematic volume published for the 160th anniversary of Vikentii Khvoika’s birth, compiling 12 papers based on a 2010 round table at the National Museum of History of Ukraine with participation from the Institute of Archaeology of the NAS of Ukraine. The collection surveys Khvoika’s research legacy from the Paleolithic to Kyivan Rus’, with particular emphasis on Cucuteni–Trypillia materials, including reassessments of his cultural classifications and the museum’s holdings of his Trypillian finds. The edition is noted for its extensive illustrations, including color photographs of artifacts from Khvoika’s excavations preserved in the museum’s collections.

A commemorative edited volume on Vikentii Khvoika brings together museum and academy scholars to reassess his wide-ranging contributions to Ukraine’s ancient past. The review highlights the book’s strongest sections on Cucuteni–Trypillia research and the documentation of Khvoika’s excavated materials held in the National Museum of History of Ukraine.
